Would you recommend us to your friends & family?

If you’ve been a patient at our hospitals recently, we would like to know your views on the care you received. We’re asking everyone who has stayed overnight in hospital or visited Accident & Emergency or the minor injuries unit to tell us how likely they are to recommend us to their friends and family. This ‘Friends & Family Test’ is a good way for hospitals to measure patient satisfaction with the care they are provided and the results will be published nationally.

You can give us your views on the care you received at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Bassetlaw Hospital (not ward B2) or Montagu Hospital in Mexborough. We really do value all the feedback we receive and your comments will help us recognise those staff and areas that are doing a good job as well as addressing any issues or problems.

Accident & Emergency Department – How are we doing?

Data from Accident & Emergency Departments in all acute NHS Trusts is published by the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) monthly.  The data represents a comprehensive view of the care delivered by Accident & Emergency Departments and reflects the experiences and safety of patients and in turn supports patient expectations of high quality Accident & Emergency Services. Hard Truths - Safe staffing levels

From April 2014 all hospitals are required to publish information about the actual and planned staffing levels on all our nursing and midwifery wards on a shift by shift basis.  This initiative is part of the NHS response to the Francis Report which called for greater openness and transparency in the health service.

We are displaying information on staffing boards and messaging screens for patients and visitors on all our wards. These show who is in charge of the ward, the number of staff we plan to have on duty and the actual number on duty.  This information is broken down to record numbers of registered nurses and midwives and numbers of healthcare support workers.

Information about staffing levels are published monthly and reported to our Board of Directors public meetings. We assess the required nurse staffing levels on all our wards at least twice a year and report his to our public board meeting. Find the latest reports below:

  • Safe staffing monthly June 2016 board paper.
  • Most recent review of ward nursing staff
  • Most recent review of Paediatric and Midwifery staffing January 2016.
  • Most recent review of Emergency Department staffing January 2016 board paper.

This information is also on the NHS Choices website. If you would like to view previous staffing level reports, full details are reported to the public meetings and these can be found here Board of Directors.

For more information about staffing levels please contact Richard Parker, Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Quality, Doncaster Royal Infirmary Tel: 01302 366666 ext 3183.

Summary Care Records

Smoke-free premises

We have introduced smoke-free buildings and grounds.  We did this to improve health and the environment - less litter and cigarette ends.  Bassetlaw and Doncaster have high levels of smoking-related illnesses so we are stopping opportunities to smoke and working with the two health communities to improve the health of local people.

For free help to stop smoking phone the Doncaster stop smoking service on (01302) 640064. Outside Doncaster visit
