Medical Director to retire

Dr Emyr Wyn Jones (pictured) retires as the Trust’s Consultant Physician and Medical Director at the end of March 2010.

The Medical Director is the head of the medical profession within the Trust, and is an Executive Director of the Board. The post is part-time, and the Medical Director maintains a limited medical practice.

The post has been advertised nationally, and the closing date for completed applications is 26 October 2009.
Dr Jones’ retirement was announced at September’s meeting of the Board of Directors. Nigel Clifton, Chief Executive, praised Dr Jones’ contribution: “Dr Jones has served his patients as Consultant Physician with great distinction for 22 years, combining his medical practice with responsibilities as Medical Director for the last 11 years. Throughout that time, Emyr has made an outstanding contribution to improved patient care, medical education, and training. Locally, regionally and nationally, Dr Jones has a first-class reputation for his work on medical leadership, the quality of care, and health policy. His achievements as a doctor are an enduring tribute to his vocation, wisdom, and compassion in practice, and reflect his great energy and commitment to improve healthcare and health services.”

Now the search is on for a doctor of similar calibre: “We now seek a visionary and dynamic Medical Director to continue the tradition started by the current Medical Director,” Nigel added.
As an Executive Director, the Medical Director will provide leadership across a range of responsibilities, including the continuing development of our clinical strategy, clinical governance and patient service standards, quality, clinical performance, research and development, and the medical workforce.

The successful candidate will have an impressive track record as a senior clinician and significant evidence of success as a clinical manager.
